Katharina Albert gave a guest lecture about material flow simulation, advance planning and facility optimization to the students of supply chain specialization at the American University in the Emirates. The young GCC nationals were very interested in this technology and the presented case study. They had an interactive session and we hope that some of them will explore the benefits of simulation further which will certainly give them an advantage in the regional job market. Thanks to Dr. Mohan Agarwal for the invitation, we always enjoy to pass on knowledge to striving students.
Thanks to all attendees from the various industries such as warehousing, logistics, retail, ship services, ship building, container terminals, HR consulting, aviation etc. We really enjoyed your input and questions and hope you had an informative day.
Senior HR and operations professionals from across the Middle East are set to attend the first Dubai WTS Executive Forum, a conference examining how to significantly improve productivity in large workforces. We had several individual sessions with delegations from large and medium sized container terminals, port consultants and TOS suppliers at the Sofitel Downtown Dubai to present the CHESSCON family of terminal simulation tools. Our partner Mr. Holger Schuett from ISL Applications in Germany shared advise from his many years experience and gave examples from other successful projects they have completed before.
We visited the Airport Research Center GmbH in Aachen, Germany for one week. We went through a comprehensive training to model passenger terminals with the highly specialized and market-leading CAST airport simulation software.
At the Annual Working Time Change Forum at the Celtic Manor Resort in the UK many different businesses presented about their working time change journey, what challenges they faced, what were the lessons learned and benefits achieved. Hearing it from the person in charge of the project was so much more interesting. They were candid when they said they had to change more than just shift patterns, infact the entire company culture and work attitude has to change. From in-efficient 8 hours standard work time with plenty of costly over-time payments to a flexible shift system aligning workforce to the actual demand driven solely by the market and customer service level.
Katharina Albert presented the Lean Employee Resourcing concept In this seminar we discussed Lean Employee Resourcing (Lean ER®), which helps businesses to define more specific work shift patterns to avoid over- and under-utilization of staff as well as offering flexibility to keep employees motivated and productive. We also shared a successful case study from our software partner Working Time Solutions (WTS).
