Khalifa University of Science, Technology & Research, or KUSTAR is a science-focused university located in Abu Dhabi. Founded in 2007 Khalifa University was established in an effort to support a knowledge-based economy that will contribute to the state’s post-oil future with a current student population of approximately 1300. The Industrial and Systems Engineering faculty acquired Flexsim Healthcare Academic license as the University is preparing to establish a College of Medicine and Health Sciences.
The Al Ain-based United Arab Emirates University, which uses Flexsim HealthCare since 2013 at their College for Medicine and Health Sciences. Khalifa University is the 2nd in the country adopting this sophisticated software for hospital planning, optimization of patient flow and maximizing resource utilization.
Flexsim 2017 has been released and you can upgrade from within your existing Flexsim Software from the Start Page or logon to your account at Flexsim.com and download from there. New users can create an account and download the free trial version Flexsim Express, which is limited to 30 objects.

Together with our Dutch partners Talumis and their special Flexsim module for simulating bulk and liquid goods called FloWorks, we are validating the planned plant upgrade for Al Rawabi Dairy Plant in Al Khawaneej.
To meet future demand and seasonal peaks, the current facility will be upgraded by investing several million USD in new equipment, such as tanks, mixers, pasteurizers and filling lines. As the production of a variety of dairy products in different batch sizes becomes pretty complex, we built a virtual model to test the future production plan before the investment is made. The simulation maps every single product flow and recipe, it will show potential bottlenecks and extensive statistics and utilization can be gathered to optimized the suggested layout.
The Leaders in Logistics Summit is the best event in Dubai for the Logistics industry. Every year in November the top managers from the logistics and retail gather to discuss current challenges and future trends that will drive the industry.
The event took place on Tuesday the 8th of November at the Grosvenor House in Dubai Marina. Katharina Albert was on the panel discussing the Impact of Disruptive Technologies, such as drone deliveries, automated-guided vehicles and 3D printing. The networking breaks were an excellent opportunity to catch-up with peers and make new contacts.
The Gulfood Manufacturing is back at DWTC from 7-9th of November. If you are interested how to optimize your production and supply chain network, contact us for a live demo. We can show you a few examples how we simulate:
Flexsim is a powerful yet easy to use problem-solving tool, that helps you to validate investment decisions in a risk-free environment. Our Partner Talumis has developed the FloWorks module for Flexsim, which is designed to accurately model bulk, liquid and gas supply chains.
We have completed a project for TRIBOT and its advantages for the supply chain. It’s a great idea of having triangular containers to fill the gaps between round drums to maximize space utilization. Larger tribots are even more economic! To crunch the numbers and visualize the concept for potential investors, we were commissioned to produce a short animation video:
Gulftainer operates the Sharjah and Khorfakkan Container Terminals in the UAE as well as terminals in Brazil, Iraq, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and the USA. Before implementing their new custom-designed Port Operating System, they are using ISL’s Chesscon Vitual Terminal to test the software, features and strategies in a risk-free environment. They have developed several Test Scenarios and the our emulation tool acts and responds like the equipment / operators in the real port would do. Then they can derive statistics and logs and detect errors if any tasks were wrongly assigned or which allocation strategy works best. Vinay Sharma, the Head of IT said, that the Chesscon Virtual Terminal was indeed very helpful to assist them with the testing before going live, it showed where the bottlenecks are.
For a leading automation & storage solution provider, we did a study to analyze proposed concepts how to best connect the production with the high-bay storage and shipping area.
We also tested various equipment breakdown scenarios to quantify how long the production lines can continue running while the conveyor system acts as temporary buffer.
We created several animated videos to support their final client presentation.
Kat Logics was featured in Issue 2 of the new Terminal Operator Magazine by FlipFlopMedia. The magazines features the Mega 20 suppliers of port equipment and technology along with its leaders from the regional port industry.

Katharina Albert gave a guest lecture about material flow simulation, advance planning and facility optimization to the students of supply chain specialization at the American University in the Emirates. The young GCC nationals were very interested in this technology and the presented case study. They had an interactive session and we hope that some of them will explore the benefits of simulation further which will certainly give them an advantage in the regional job market. Thanks to Dr. Mohan Agarwal for the invitation, we always enjoy to pass on knowledge to striving students.
