We were exhibiting at the Dubai Airport Show 2015 with our 12 sqm booth at Hall 6, stand 6001 near the entrance. We showcased videos of airport simulation projects and the benefits of digital manufacturing.
We engaged with many visitors and asked about their line of business, we could give them specific examples of how simulation could be applied to improve their operations and increase profit margins. We were able to change their mindset from “No need…” to “Yes, we should do this!” Hence the exhibition was a great success to tell people about the various application areas and benefits that simulation technology will bring to their business.
Whether we are talking about airport expansion projects or aviation industry suppliers, they face common challenges: how to increase throughput capacity or upgrade facilities while day-to-day operations are going on?
At this year’s Innovation Podium during the Airport Show in Dubai, Katharina Albert from Kat Logics will present on how to address these issues and make objective decisions based on statistics with the help of simulation technology.
Senior HR and operations professionals from across the Middle East are set to attend the first Dubai WTS Executive Forum, a conference examining how to significantly improve productivity in large workforces.
The event takes place at the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel, Dubai on the 21st April 2015 and will play host to speakers including Dr Salem, former VP, HR at Emirates Global Aluminium and a presentation from the National Ambulance in the UAE.
We had several individual sessions with delegations from large and medium sized container terminals, port consultants and TOS suppliers at the Sofitel Downtown Dubai to present the CHESSCON family of terminal simulation tools. Our partner Mr. Holger Schuett from ISL Applications in Germany shared advise from his many years experience and gave examples from other successful projects they have completed before.
We visited the Airport Research Center GmbH in Aachen, Germany for one week. We went through a comprehensive training to model passenger terminals with the highly specialized and market-leading CAST airport simulation software.
At the Annual Working Time Change Forum at the Celtic Manor Resort in the UK many different businesses presented about their working time change journey, what challenges they faced, what were the lessons learned and benefits achieved. Hearing it from the person in charge of the project was so much more interesting. They were candid when they said they had to change more than just shift patterns, infact the entire company culture and work attitude has to change. From in-efficient 8 hours standard work time with plenty of costly over-time payments to a flexible shift system aligning workforce to the actual demand driven solely by the market and customer service level.

The Siemens PLM for Shipbuilding software enables a holistic approach to shipbuilding that improves ship design, total enterprise collaboration, synchronization and productivity, as well as lifecycle ship service and support, by optimizing shipbuilding processes.
We have simulated the electric monorail system for transporting carts and pallets through the Emirates Inflight Catering facility a few years back at the initial design stage using Flexsim simulation software. The incline-capable Schierholz Electric Monorail System ensures rapid, safe above-ground transportation of goods.
Katharina Albert presented the Lean Employee Resourcing concept
In this seminar we discussed Lean Employee Resourcing (Lean ER®), which helps businesses to define more specific work shift patterns to avoid over- and under-utilization of staff as well as offering flexibility to keep employees motivated and productive. We also shared a successful case study from our software partner Working Time Solutions (WTS).
